ON-GOING HOME POKER GAME IN REDWOOD CITY HILLS

I've had a great five year run of WEDNESDAY and SATURDAY night poker (cash game never a rake) at my place and we're always looking for more players. The game is no limit Texas hold ’em, with one and two dollar blinds, most folks buy in for around $80.00 to $100.00 dollars. If you're looking for nice group of non-smoking, non-drinking, friendly poker playing folks, then send me a reply. Our player’s age range from the upper twenties up to the mid sixties and everywhere in-between. Now, a couple of things here, if you are the type of person that says things like hella and hecka, or what’s up dawg, then this might not be the right game for you. If you are also the type of person that screams and high fives everyone in the room and spills your beer when the raiders score, then please stay away. I should also mention that we are looking for people that can play on a regular basis hopefully NO LESS than a couple times a month and I would prefer people over the age of 23 (young kids tend to go all in constantly) and if you are coming over strictly to play cards and have no intentions of speaking to anyone please don't reply, you must have some kind of a personality, some people that show up are about as exciting as a parking meter. Great game for married couples and ladies, Wednesday’s game begins at seven and Saturday’s as well. We are located in the Emerald Hills which is a little community located in the upper Redwood City hills, snacks and drinks are provided however you are welcome to bring whatever you like. I know it sounds like a lot of rules but that’s how we are able to keep the games going. Hope to see you.

Thanks Much

Hi,

I'm looking for a regular or occasional game in SF, either hold 'em or a mixed game, low-mid stakes, $20-$100 buy in. Cash or tourney style is fine. I've been playing a few years but very sporadically. I'm pretty easygoing, 36 yrs old. Give a shout if you have something, thx!

Newly formed World Amateur Poker League

Got a new one to check out. Wrenegadepoker.com. It's a new website (looks like it's still in BETA). You can find, schedule or organize and host games by city, state, zip code or game style. Pretty cool. Meet, find, locate, organize, host or join games. Totally spam free. Hacker safe. Kind of like Meetup combined with Myspace + Outlook. Personalized calendars. Looks like a cool way to find action. Found two current promotions "2007 Team of the Year" and "2007 College Player of the Year." No online play, but links to home, public, private and casino games. There's even free membership access. Got a press release about a future project -- more tournaments and cash prizes sponsored by the affiliated World Amateur Poker League - 1st event over $1,000,000 at stake – all final tourney action at casinos – invitation only - no online play!

Been watching the site. Looks like lots of people from pretty much all over the US have found it and seem to be diggin’ it. Not too hard to find people or games.

What is my problem??

I've noticed that I seemed to do pretty well in tournaments but I keep finishing just shy of the money. At Garden City Tuesday nights they pay to 10th. last month I got 11th, last week 14th out of around 140 poeple. Friday night at another casino I got 5th out of 60 poeple, but they pay to 4th.

Is there something wrong with my play when I get that close to the cash? Do I freeze up? I tend to play very conservatively, yet agressively when a decent hand comes. But each time I seem to get eaten by the blinds. It seems like at the late part of a tournament, it's one player that calls against the blinds, and usually wins the hand. I never seem to catch the cards to be able to do that.

Am I just too conservative and getting eaten by the blinds? or am I just unlucky at catching what I need? Should I just go for it when I've got 8-3 off suit?

i think it's genetic

I was playing in a tournament and getting horrible pocket cards which would have turned into the winning hands a majority of the time and whenever I did take the chance and played the cards, nothing developed. My last hand I had pocket jacks, went all in, the other guy had pocket kings. He got trips on the flop and I got trips on the river.
I think this is genetic that I have no luck. Can anyone offer an alternate explanation?

I went to a real money site of a poker web site and noticed that one player had over a million dollars at the table. This didn't make sense to me.
Why would anyone hold a million dollars at an online gambling site? It seems a poor place because of security, no interest earned, difficult to access, etc. Can anyone explain this behavior?

HERES SOME HUMOR FOR YOU ALL

POKER BOBBLE HEADS AND THE FUTURE OF POKER BY GARY J. STONE

I would consider myself to be a very true poker loyalist. But recently I was sent a link to view a new line of poker bobble heads. It was very cute but after it set in. It very much disturbed me. I will further explain. With the increase of the popularity of poker we will see more and more poker related items hit the market. I see this coming next.

POKER ACTION FIGURES

These could be very fun and entertaining but I see problems. I will further explain. Ok, for example lets say a parent buys this action figure for they're daughter or son. We will say Chris 'Jesus" Ferguson. We all know he is a great poker player but I see a mommy that might have had her heart broke or lost her virginity in high school with the neighborhood stoner and try to give him a haircut out of spite. Even worse at Christmas time he would multipurpose in the nativity scene if needed. He would have one special feature though. If you pull his arm back he could throw a plastic playing card and cut into a straw. That's great but children miss use common sense and I see a kid tearing up his sister's toys that would lead to a good ole ass beating.

Then they're would be Daniel Negreanus. His would be a small action figure so it looks like he would be picked on. He would never live up to THE HULK, or THE ROCK. So the problem would be keeping him in one piece. He would be beat up like a school drug nark. He would have an order form for replacement parts cause it would be very much needed.

Then I would like to mention Gus Hanson. You say 'Gary, how in the world would they're be a problem with Gus?" Well, I am here to tell you. Just look at him. He is very bald. Any smart-ass kid with a blue sharpie would make him a member of the BLUE MAN GROUP and I really don't feel Gus has any rhythm.

Then there are the ones that don't sell. They go straight to the .99-cent box or to your neighborhood Big Lots. One person who would lead that race would be Mike 'The Mouth" Matusow. Kids don't want to play with him. Hell, adults don't want to play with him. I do hear they will have a mute feature for the second run. I wish them luck.

Ok, then we would have the Johnny Chan action figure. See he's oriental and as an action figure he might not know that he's a poker player and not a martial artist. So the WWE stars and Japanese anime figures might taunt and tease him and put him on tilt. Now if he could meet up with a Matt Damon action figure he might be able to even the score from the movie Rounders.

Now I wouldn't want to forget the ladies of poker. Lets take Clonie Gowen. She is the most beautiful thing in poker right now. Do you think a 12 yr old bored boy will respect her? I doubt it very much. He will go into his sister's room and take her and lets say the Barbie Ken. Then he will be doing foul things like this. 'Oh Clonie, you like a guy that goes ALL IN…you Skank" or 'You like a guy that has the nuts, well I got a lovely set of coconuts for you bimbo broad". Then there is Annie Duke. We all love Annie, who doesn't? . I see this happening at some trailer park in America. We have this girl that has watched her two parents fight like monkeys throwing feces each other all her life. This little girl will not give Annie the respect she deserves. She will have a tea party and it will go like this. It will be all fine till GI JOE tells Annie to quit playing poker and go do the dishes. Annie being the strong woman will decline and say no. Then the shit hits the fan. GI JOE puts Annie in a kung fu grip and leads her to the plastic pink sink as he downs his last Budwieser from the BOB AND DOUG McKENZIE collection. Annie deserves much better than that people.

Then I hate to say but our guy Phil Ivey that we all admire so much could get with the wrong action figure crowd. If he is subjected to bad action figures it could hurt his poker skills. I love Snoop Dogg but he's no good for Phil as an action figure friend. One toke of Snoops 'Nashizzle Nitro Bong" and he wouldn't be able to play. He would be over at the Raymer table asking Greg if he had any Little Smokies or Bon Bons left. Just say no Phil.

Now I get to my favorite player, Phil Hellmuth Jr. He wouldn't stand a chance. He would have his head ripped off by parents daily. Not just because of Phil poker brat's reputation. It's also because of its features. It would have the 'Instafit" feature. The problem with this feature is…. it never turns off. You hit that button and you're your up all night unless it wins and lowers your self-esteem. We as consumers would not be impressed.

I hope you understand my concern. What's next you ask? Who knows and who cares I say. As long as I don't see a Chris Moneymaker 'Beer Gut" workout tape on the Home Shopping Network or the Sam Farha ' IF YOU NEVER LIGHT IT-YOU WILL NEVER GET HOOKED QUIT SMOKING PLAN" on QVC. I think we will all be fine. My calendar is marked and waiting for this though. It's the Marcel Luske 'Sing-A-Long with the 70s on K-TEL records. Be well and watch those all inn's. .

Online poker

Finally ventured onto the online poker arena. I have to say that it was a fun experience. A lot easier than real life. Online there are soo many easy players to play b/c, thanks to ESPN, all the hype about it. Most people haven't picked up a book and played and so most people are relatively easy to play against. After sitting at a table for 45 minutes I was able to spot who was good and who we're weak.
In online play you play against the cards and the betting. In person you have to do that plus play against the person's character. Anywho I liked pokerroom.com and I am willing to try any others people recommend.

Here's a espn article about the hype Hold'em has gotten:

Hey folks,
Where do you like to play & what do you play?
I like Excaliber in Vegas!
They have 1-2 no limit for $100 buy in.
I also like the 2 places in South Lake Tahoe.
One of them has spread limit.
Besides that, I like Oaks for 2-4 or was it 3-6? Hmm
I also like pokerroom.com! They also have no limit!

Hey folks,
I'm bummed that the WSOP on ESPN comes on at 6PM here. I'm also one of the few who do not have a Tivo like device yet.
Any one have this on the Internet? Also when those the real World Series start? None of these side tourneys.
